The ripstop fabric is hardwearing, so won't flap around so much in the wind, meaning the trousers won't lose their original shape. However, you can increase ventilation through the zipped leg openings if you are prone to hot sweats whilst hiking. 

Articulated knee darts promote natural motion if you are trying to keep up with your dog on a high-intensity walk.
